The first step is usually a kickoff meeting where we discuss the scope of work, talk about the immediate needs, and provide background education, answer questions, etc.

We bring Leadership, Developers, and Legal to discover the best course of action in addressing Open Source.

ESTABLISH THE PLAN

This is not some high level “aspirational” fluff.  We help develop a plan that satisfies the needs of all stakeholders, especially the developers.  We work until there is buy in from all parties, and help to establish the relevant training for developers, management and legal.  We for developers, we get in the weeds, with usable examples.  We can sit down and talk developers through the process at the code level.  For management, we can explain the process from a business management perspective, and show how we are reducing management overhead.  For legal, we can explain our process with basis in law.  We can go a step further by helping integrate patent and trademark strategies, help with strategies that isolate and protect business critical code, and establish legal fences that protect the assets  of the company.
